Hello from Burien, Washington State, USA. I was directed here by a post in OlyDubs - Olympia, Washington, USA - about extracting hinges from doors.
The link is http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=85049 by Joel - and I'm most grateful for his detailed,
well-photographed, and helpful post. I saved the donor right-side door from my window regulator swap. I ended up having a local shop perform the
actual swap - it seemed better left to experienced hands - but, I will follow Joel's procedure and drill out the hinge rivets and extract the hinges.
I'll drive the pin out of the upper hinge and replace it with the after-market part that allows mounting a mirror and keep it handy for when I feel
experienced enough to extract the hinges from the car door.
I've some things to do - like establish an avatar and signature file and do some more exploring here.
I drive a 1967 bug and 1978 king-cab Datsun pickup. I bought the bug about 2 years ago after being away from veedubs for almost 10 years. This is the
first car I'll actually work at making look better. I've never cared much about how my cars look - only that they stop and drive well - my Datsun
being a fine example of that philosophy. It's never been fouled with any cleaning agents since the beginning of my ownership in March of 2000 - the
rains here in the Pacific NW of the USA being sufficient for my purposes. I'm actually getting my head around the possibility of making cosmetic
improvements to the bug - quite a new thing for me.
Welcome cb. Good to see that you have been helped by info. on here. I like your 'philosophy'......a bit like mine [see my signature].
