I recently got a 73 bettle... that has has been made into a coverible, I did not get the engineering report..
Some rust and need some work...

getting the car re-engineered seems to cost more then i willing to spend, have you got any ideas...

If you are not willing to pay an engineer to get it on the road, Sell the car as a whole or part it out
Then buy one with rego

Is Your beetle a SUPER on NON SUPER ??

If the spare wheel lays flat its a super beetle [L] [1303]

If the spare wheel sits upright is a NON SUPER beetle...

Many people get caught out with the first beetle they buy..
[sometimes the second or third] lol

Did youget the rego papers, engieers report number should be mentioned on the rego papers, this wont help much as the RMS doesn't keep records of engineers reports.

I have been to the RTA/RMA, and asked for all the infromation that they have.. got the vihicle history check..
the very nice girl told me was made a convertible in 89 and they do not keep records before 96. however she did try and nothing come back form the request.

the engineeres and RTA/RMA all talked about getting welds x-rayed and re-welding and paper work..

I belive it's a superbug.. the vechicle history check says it is and the space wheel lays flat..

for selling the parts out or the car as a whole.. i have talked/told my wife that in the next 12 -18 months we look for another superbug, hoping
for an convertible ( with reports) as i am a tall peron, if not, one with a roof..
then sell the current car..

I will keep an eye out for a another one..

If all else falls only cost me $1200 for the car and have lerant lots about the paper work with the RTA/RMA..

hi Barry,

you could also consider buying a reasonable one with a roof & having an aftermarket soft / sliding sunroof put in.
If you have all the mechanicals you need you might be able to swap over the bits etc & assemble one that would be able to be registered, also setting aftermarket seats down lower than standard will give you more headroom

I have contacted the people, i got the car from and offered some more cash if they could find the report... they seemed very interested when i said cash..
I will given them two weeks,

Not knowing a great deal about bugs, not sure on what a good part or standard part..
do have some pics i will post later tonight...

I got new floor pans, both sides, some shiny engine bits, friberglass flared guards. as spares with the car and new clucth kit...
