hi , as title says ... yeah
never had a vw before ,(better late than never aye) so havn't really got my head around a non radiator car ...
but doing my homework , i will be getting into a pre 70 fasty or square, depends on what comes up ...
but looking nationwide at prices & models have stumbled across a few early models that look the same as the 70's models for eg.

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/volkswagen-1600-1967-13452527?base...

says its a 67 but has same front end of a early to mid 70's & its not the only one like this that ive stumbled across , so my question is , are all fastys type 3's ? are these just typo errors ?
basically i want my facts straight before i post a wanted add ..
so your on the same page as me , this is the model i want but missed out on earlier in the week , advertised as 1969 fastback

The Type 3 range launched in August 1961 with two models: the Notchback, encompassing three-box styling in a notchback saloon body, and the Karmann Ghia 1500 (also known as the Type 34 Karmann Ghia "Razor") with a coupé body. The first Variant, known as the Squareback, with an estate body followed in 1962. The Fastback, or TL version, a fastback coupé, arrived in August 1965, at the same time the 1600 engine was introduced.

69 was the last year of that shape with the early short nose.

Its a 67 at the latest due to the wide 5 stud wheels as they went 4 stud early in 68 and the big wrap round front indicators are mid 60s, early ones were bullet style, push button door handles etc, although type3s can be odd balls as they were diffrent specs for different markets.

70 and later type 3s have the longer shark nose front end and the bigger tail lights and bumpers.

69 is the pick of the crop, early looks but IRS, although type 3s are piece of piss to convert from swingaxle to IRS thanks to the removable subframe.

Do be carefull with buying a type 3 as they are quite plentifull in RUST
Some of the bad area's to look in are under the carpet in the rear corners of the front bonnet area , the floor and sill panels , the rear chassis rails towards the very rear near the motor hangers , around the windscreen and rear window ( rear window vents on a notch back ) , bottom back corners of the front guards and a miriad of other nooks and crannys .
