saw this baby at cooroy on saturday morning while i was at work.....i walked outside and though "oh a beetle" then i spotted the rear window and ran
for my baja to get my digital camera (yes this was while i was at work:P) and i got a couple of shots of it.....very very nice...everything was smick
except the exhaust and the bumpers were pretty rough....interior was flawless with white faced VDO guages recovered low back seats and wood grain
steering wheel.
BUT GET THIS......on sunday i went to the motorcross at green park in connondale with my girlfreind and her family and there it was again!!! ....oh
and i also saw a green chop top bug cruiseing past the fish resturant near the mary cairncross turn off (mountain veiw road) it was heading away from
maleny.
second pic from at cooroy
bit of a dodgy pic i snapped from afar at green park
good one i love split bugs
has anyone else seen this around the sunshine coast?
wow its a ragtop too
Do you reckon it's a fake or for real? Next time you see it have a squiz at the rego sticker on the windscreen and see what year it is registered as.
Nice looking car for sure, but the side windows are too big, so it can't an original split OR an original rag.
It is a later model with the split window and ragtop grafted in. The best of both worlds!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ahhh i hadnt thought of doing that......good thinking MikeM .......if i ever see it again ill take a look. whether its fake or real id still have it though.
oh well i guess its not a real split then......still cool though
hi anthiron...
i spotted that car already about a month ago on fishermans road turning towards blibli.....looked quite good....and it moved quit quick
also.....drool.....
wat did the dash look like?
I see it all the time for a few months now heading north towards Cooroy/Eumundi area yes and too fast for me to get a good look, does not seem to be the real thing but is nice to see just the same, that reminds me,a while back someone here found a split beetle shell upsidedown in a paddock in the Brisbane area?............I wonder what happend there?.
It looks like a split dash
The roof looks a bit odd but on closer inspection as Byron bus has spotted to what seems the unmistakable four compartment dash but they seem to have put 4 instrument gauge cluster in place of original items.......I'm thinking it is a real split.....why would you go to so much trouble to find a split dash and put it in?And come to think of it the rear windows are spot on as a welded in job is a bit suss looking.
Damn nice bug though.......:o
the dash had twin glove boxes....one on each side and a cluster of 4 VDO guages. im not an expert on splits so i cant tell you if its real or not...it does look bloody good though apart from the bumpers. yes it was pretty quick when it left unfortunatly i was putting the camera back in the baja quickly before someone spotted me not working and didnt get to talk to him....i did give him a double thumbs up when he drove past though.
hey Nick, don't tell me you gave him the "Thats Tops".....??
ha ha ha......i was congratulating him on his beautiful automobile. i think he might have thought i was some weirdo kid dressed in an IGA uniform making gestures to him as he was driving.............oh wait i was.
yes you were but we forgive you of your shortcommings. sweet bug though
yeah i saw that in Noosa the other day
If it is a real split, that would need ALOT of money to get back to original....Correct pan, Rear bumper (the front one in the first pic looks like
the ribbed type the splits had) tail lights, popes nose/deck lid handle, ribbed semaphores, doors, and thats all I can see in the pics! But it does
look like a real split (from the pics!)
N!

I think its a real split, but definately not a real ragtop. It has a 2 fold ragtop instead of a 3 fold.
so now its a real split.......one day ill corner him in a carpark and get the details and direct him to Klub VW sunshine coast.......(YES I KNOW IM NOT EVEN A MEMBER YET)
