Hi there!
Leaving Uni yesterday I saw a white 78 bay in the parking lot, yay. Then, further back, I was amazed to see a volksie with "Karmann Ghia" on the
back! Wow. It looked like this, except
was white or cream coloured. Really nice looking too! Beautiful.
But, I though these were karmann ghias: they're different aren't
they? Oh - then there were the beetle ghias too weren't there?
What's goin' on? Thanks.
Aurel
hey,
if you read the info on the page on your first link, it will describe the differences between a type 14 Karmann Ghia, and a type 34 Karmann Ghia, also
known as a type 3 ghia, because it was released to co-incide with the type 3 1500 range, or a Razor Edge Ghia because of it's sharp lines compared to
the type 14's rounded styling.
Both of these are Karmann Ghias.
There is no Beetle Ghia.
Unfortunately, the Ford motor company bought out Carrozzeria Ghia, and now owns the name and pimps it on it's "up spec" models.
There is a Karmann Beetle Cabriolet. So named as Karmann were the company who designed/built the soft top roof. Ghia was a design company who designed the Karmann Ghia range of models, but had nothing to do with soft top beetles.
yeah.. ghia designed and karmann built.
gotta say i drove my T34 to, around and back from nambucca over the weekend. and i gotta say it is the best vw i ever drove, and to say fast is an
understatement...
Ah OK, I see. Thanks.
You need to watch more "get smart"
what about ford falcon ghias then eh, eh??!
it is when ford bought out and took over ghia and reduced them to designing interiors

Convertible Beetles [cabriolets] were made by Karmann of Osnabruck so they are Karmann Cabriolets..
Not Karmann Ghias - although made by the same factory...
