A guy who has ben doing a bit of panel beating on my car has this beast hiding away. Thought it was a cool never seen one with a cab like this, any ideas?? Some one has chopped it and put in a toyota crown motor into it. Pretty rough it has been used as a paddock basher but he saved it from going to the crusher.

BrisDubba - February 28th, 2006 at 08:39 AM

Hmmm I see that it is chained to the tree, like some mongrel dog... perhaps that is an omen- but it does appear to have the proper steering wheel

silverbullet - February 28th, 2006 at 07:52 PM

Just needs a kennel to keep it warm. Parked on the side of a hill chained to stop it rolling away but pretty sure the back brakes were seized any way. Seemed to be pretty well complete and original just had a hard life by the looks of it.

handycam - March 1st, 2006 at 05:34 AM

It actually went into getting two C.B's back on the road.
When restoring cars that what happens, some shitters go into getting good cars going, they cant all be saved.

Werent you trying to jump in on the deal volma1? Wish you had of taken it, trust me it didnt need the chain, that thing was going nowhere but to vw heaven

62deluxe - July 23rd, 2006 at 11:58 PM

God that piece of #$&* brings back memories. None good!!!

silverbullet - July 24th, 2006 at 06:19 PM

was out there the other day i assume the back half is still there chained to the tree. The guy still cant belive the interest that it raised. I really dont know how he got it off the trailer when he dropped it off but it definately wasn't going any where.

62deluxe - July 24th, 2006 at 10:16 PM

For anyone who thinks it's a crime etc etc to cut up a country buggy, I dare you to make anything out of this thing. It was waaaay past salvage. Don't:cry kiddies. It went to save others.

Not crying about that...the front end would have been good in my buggy!! Pity it was left to rot though. At least it was an organ donor:thumb

volma1 - July 25th, 2006 at 02:56 PM

I was only interested till I heard it was sold Ed, then interest waned after seeing the poor thing. Only good for parts as you found out. volma1

ragtopp - July 25th, 2006 at 09:53 PM

Greg we didnt even break even on the parts we got. The splitty we bought at the same time was even worse than the buggy, sight unseen of course, but sometimes you got to take a chance. The splitty wasnt even brought back to hobart. Two T4 kombis and two broken trailers and busted self esteem sent us on the 250km trip back home!!!:cry

62deluxe - July 25th, 2006 at 11:49 PM

And a good time was had by all!!!!:crazy:

volma1 - July 28th, 2006 at 12:30 PM

You're right Ed, sometimes have to wing it take a gamble and occasionally not come up trumps. Cheers, Greg

BUGBOY - August 15th, 2006 at 03:07 PM

The front end is now rebuilt and is going into one of my CB's.
The car was way to gone to restore, but it has helped me put two back together.:thumb

I just found out that a 1971 [Non Super] 1200 Beetle sold in the UK & Europe had the same black plain steering wheel as used on the Country Buggy.....

I knew VW wouldn't have specially had them made...
I presume the steering wheels were German??
or maybe Aussie Made...??
Well, I'm guessing they were the same....

The correct Country Buggy steering wheel is original Type 1 from the early split screen beetles. It was three spoked.

Rural Baja - April 17th, 2007 at 04:29 PM

Craig Torrens - April 17th, 2007 at 10:16 PM
