Sealing existing paint work
Paulc1964au - August 11th, 2013 at 11:44 AM

My 69 beetle (pictured) has been repsrayed once not by me but looks like it was a few thin coats. The paint work is looking old but thats the look i like. I there anyway of preserving the paint as it stands?

Can I have the car re-cleared or do i just continually wax it? I have no intentions of respraying the car.

you will have to strip the car and rub back the existing paint to add a clear coat

you may be better off stripping and getting and damage fixed while its apart then re spraying with new colour

Suggest you find a good panel shop / painter but it going to cost you a few grand and probably some new parts as well

Nah i don't want to respray the car just prevent any further deterioration

You need a good polish/detail Paul. Forget about clear coating.

Waxing is last, there are other procedures first. Talk to you when i see you.

Cut - removes a percentage of existing paint, especially oxidised layers

Polish - glazes sufaces that exist

Wax/seal - puts a layer to protect

That is it. There is no magic clear coat to make it like new.

I'd just cut polish/wax.

Old paint loves it.
