69notch - July 2nd, 2015 at 11:44 PM

Hi Guys
about to start the prep work on my notch and need some info.
car was blasted and primed around 5 years ago and has been sitting since due to lack of time.
the inside and under guards have all been 2k but still the roof, guards, doors, front and rear panels are in primer.
i plan to sand them back to bare metal due to surface rust and length of time they have been sitting in primer and treat but not sure where to go after that am i right to say the steps are
1 metal treatment
2 epoxy prime
3 body filler
4 thin coat of epoxy to seal filler
5 high build filler
6 block sand and guide coat
7 topcoats

have been searching through the forum but they all seem to come up short so any help would be great.
Cheers kyle

The steps you have listed is in short terms pretty much how we do restorations at work. You are right in removing the primer that is already on the car it has been on too long unprotected, and primer is porous. We use Epotec 408 Epoxy primer, 4 to five coats. Rub the Epotec with 120 grit, Polyester filler as required, One coat of Epoxy on the bare metal rub throughs and the filler to seal up, Hi build primer, and so on.

Just remember the Epotec epoxy will stick to EVERYTHING. You will need to plastic cover all walls, the floor, the ceiling, and don't wear any clothes or shoes you want to keep nice. Wear a proper Sundstrom type cannister breathing mask. Wear Nitrile gloves. Once you have finished cleaning the spray gun, go straight inside and have a good long hot shower. It makes your eyelashes stick together even.
