Death Foam Replacement

When poking new cables through from the cabin to the engine bay on my '68 Beetle, I discovered that there is foam in the gap between the bay and
cabin where the loom goes back to the engine bay. Guess it is to reduce noise transferal. No rust that I can see however looking for suggestions on
what to put in the gap to reduce noise but not cause rust in future.

I know the foam is a rust magnet. In the convertibles, there is a triangular shaped pillow that stuffs up in there. It will probably work for the
sedan as well.
It is made up from spare roof lining material and the stuffing is the padding that goes between the roof and the lining. From memory, each side of
the triangle is about 15cm long.

I could be wrong but I don't think foam should be on a '68. My '70 (Australian) had the triangular pillows but the'68 being German may have foam.

Are they the original pillows? You do have to squeeze them down a lot to get them in. If you made them up then they may be too large so you could
just make them a little smaller ad try again.

I know it's late but for accuracy and for future people searching this archive the '68 German import did not have foam. It had the triangular
pillows made from excess headlining material and left over padding from the roof lining i.e. cotton/jute material.

No wish to start a stoush but my German build 1968 Beetle definitely has foam and I have owned it for around 40 years so it is highly unlikely that a
previous owner has done any mods to that part of the car
