Panel Repair?? Kombi Damage
Salahahdin - September 12th, 2003 at 06:41 PM

We are comtemplating attempting this repair ourselves. We have access to a second hand panel section for $50.00. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to go about this repair, even if only to prepare it for professional finishing....thanks.

Or if you are a Panel Beater, Could you give a ball park figure for repair, with panel supplied.

Cheers ;)

Pile up, on the Motorway. He took a ding in the front too but the Aluminium Bullbar took that impact.

I bought this Bus in this state and I think He deserves to be fixed.

That is a possible job, it just needs a bit of time. The fact it is the 'short' side makes it easier. I would replace the whole outer and corner up to the waistline, and right down to the bottom.
A cut would be required from the tailgate bump line across.
Using an 'air hack saw' a drill, an angle grinder and a MIG welder it is quite possible.
You would probably pay about $1200 to have the repair done NOT including paint or second hand section.
Any more than that is a bit high from what I can see.
Hope this helps.
Peter

If yo do it and it works out ok, I think you should post some proggress pictures, it may inspire some of us to save our busses when we thought they were a lost cause, this would be the same for some Beetles that get crushed.

Are there any local Panelbeaters who could give a ballpark figure, plus with a time when I could drop it in to start.

Thank you.

hey if you need parts such as tail gate engine lid corner panel etc let me know u2u

Hey Rob - I need a right rear corner panel for a type 2. It's not as bad as the one shown above, just rusted out under the tail light, with the battery floor gone and part of the rear chassis rail. Can you help or recommend a source? I might take the van down to Jeff Hind in Bentleigh later this week.
Thanks.

Take it to a panel beater.. You'ld have it back in short time and it would save you trying to find time and the frustrations of DIY repair.. The time you spent fixing it would be better doing O/T or 2nd job to pay the panelbeater.. Good Luck
