Hi Folks,
Wanted to patch a few dings on the camper and fix some nasty nudie bits in the rain gutters. Was thinking of getting a few spray cans made up. Has
anyone had success with doing this ? I dont really have access to a compressor etc at this stage.
Can anyone reccomend a place to obtain such cans from in Brissy. Im looking for Crystal White 566-15453. I take it K-Mart doesnt stock those colors
On a side note im also looking for something to tidy up the underneath of the Bus, is POR 15 the way to go ??? Any info on where to get hold of the
paint would be much appreciated also.
Cheers
Scotty
For POR15 info, take a look at http://www.ppc.au.com
Auto Barn at Stones Corner/Wooloongabba makes up spray cans. I got them to do me up one for my old Morris Major, only to discover that the car was no
longer the colour the plate said it was. It was, however, just the right colour for the inside of the engine bay (not that I'm the type of girl
who'd ever paint her engine bay!) Used the tin for another job instead and it worked just fine.
I got a custom colour place to do up the right paint colour from a chip. Perfect colour match! They even collected the chip and delivered the tin.
Damn I was impressed (Pity I can't remember who they were)
I picked up a few custom made tins from a place in moorebank, near skh. Costed $30 a tin. Pretty good, but they sometimes got the tones slightly wrong and the paint was either darker or lighter, but majority of times, it was good.
Vintage in Sydney 02-9789-1777 used to get them made up but have not done for a while as they prooved to be unpopular.
however they still do have a good stock of colours available ... so give them a try
I've been having a scratch around under my kombi recently. I decided to use fish oil to start off with because it will penetrate all the nooks
and crannies of which there are plenty (did they want them to rust?).
I doubt that POR15 will penetrate all the hidden bits in the same way fish oil does.
The only problem with fish oil is that it doesn't fully dry so you probably need another coat of paint or whatever over it. Oh and it's also
very popular with the flies!
The ideal way to paint the underneath is to shot blast it , then POR15 and then fish oil.
Should last another 30 years after that.

i dont know if you have super cheap auto where you are but they have crystal white , wjich i think was also called fuji white in stock as touch up cans as i had to patch up a little bit on my kombi roof. only $7 a can and consistent colour, might save yourself a schooner or twos worth in $
i have used a satin black touch up can from super cheap and found it to be excellent......forget about the title of the store it does have some good stuff:thumb.....im with astro boy...check out super cheap auto first before u empty your wallet
there is a paint shop on kingston beenleigh road.... i work at kmart and any i send most people there when they want stuff we dont have... i'm pretty sure they have a spectrometer (colour match thingy) so if u have a sample they can make that colour up.
For my two bobs worth, I would clean the area up , put a good rust converter, spray a bit of cold gal paint, etch prime ,General purpose undercoat
then finish coat , Of course after putting on cold gav rub back with 600 grade paper, after etch prime, 800 grade, undercoat 1200.
I have found over the period of time preperation is the essential.
At least then you will have a reasonable chance of a good finished job
and at the end have a couple of these:beer
