inside vents
baybuscamperkid - September 22nd, 2003 at 12:03 PM

to try somehting different i have sprayed the inside of the rear vents of my kombi matt black. as i am changing the car's colour anyway, i thought this would be a nice little custom touch, problem is tho, now that i have sprayed it, how can i protect it from overspray when i do the body orange?

Lots of work!! :(

You'll need to tape up each slot, or try and slide a peice of card shaped the same as the opening behind the vent slits. I did that for mine. I put blutak inside of the foldings of the slits to hold the card in place. Worked well. And any gaps I used tape for them.

Good luck!! Tim.

OK this just occured to me - but it's late and it may be a crap idea.

how about putting a large balloon in though the slot and blowing it up hopefully it will seal against all the slots and when you have finished you should be able to just pop it and the fish it out ???

I have got to say that is up there with the most ingenious ideas I have ever heard of.
No wonder you are diciple of Kol. :D

how about you use the insert/bladder out of a coolabah wine cask........it is square in shape, and can be enjoyed prior to insertion in said area.......

I love it, I actually am laughing out loud. LOL

one wine cask bladder per side , two wine casks to drink, what sort of a paint job do you get after that?:jesus

Oasis - September 23rd, 2003 at 11:23 PM

What about just repainting the vents after you've done the orange??

"one wine cask bladder per side , two wine casks to drink, what sort of a paint job do you get after that"

Who'd care :beer

Disciple of Kol - is a new addtion - glad you noticed

seriously:o the balloon is a great idea but I dont know if it would survive long enough against the onslaught of thinners?

68AutoBug - September 24th, 2003 at 05:07 AM

Yes, I believe that the balloon would go "POP" as soon as the spray paint hit it... the paint thinners would disolve the balloon.... back to the wine cask or blu tac and cardboard....
was a good idea if the balloon was made of thick rubber....

kombiluva - September 24th, 2003 at 09:08 AM

How about useing some latex condoms as baloons........couple that with the wine casks and you will definatly get those holes filled in...........so to speak....LOL:D

fatboy - September 24th, 2003 at 09:10 AM

The thought of a condom bursting would just scare me too much :P

Salahahdin - September 24th, 2003 at 04:16 PM

:D hahahaha, I'm laughing out loud myself :D

kombiluva - September 25th, 2003 at 09:10 AM

Yep,
Your right about the burst condom.....not that scary in the short term, however in the long term......what a mess it would make of the paint; oh how the "paint"
would deform...then burst....leaving a mess and the ongoing repair bill and maintance for the "Paint"!

Easiest solution to the problem, use a "paint" that you can wash away...water soluable is good or one that can be watered down with other stronger better looking and durable paint that doesn't require general upkeep.

Just apply over the old "paint"!!!

SKEWtYpe3 - September 25th, 2003 at 11:21 AM

large black plastic rubbish bags, shouldnt leave anything behind (unlike those slipiery condoms)

Mr Bubble Head - September 30th, 2003 at 09:37 PM

How about card board cut to shape then a wine bag blown up behind to hold it in place
