whats the best way to fix rust under the front windscreen rubber in the channel?? cutting out patches looks rather hard in this area?? i reacon if i tried to fill it with weld it would just blow out?!? i might try braise welding not sure??
any advice?

Make sure you cut the windscreen rubber when removing the screen to get at the rust otherwise you will be up for a new screen as well.

You need to cut and weld in patches but be carefull of the wiring under the dash when welding.

dave then windscreen is out didnt brake a thing!!! im gonna pull out the dash anyway so i will do it then!!!
ummmm know i need a safety glass windscreen!!! anyone wanna swap for an original kombi windscreen?

I had 3 small holes under my rear window rubber, My Son Brazed them up for Me. Did a good job too.. The brazing equiptment was from where He was working at the time.... So brazing is OK under windscreens etc, or for small rust repairs, but no good elsewhere as it has no strength.... Maybe someone from the forum could weld the holes up for You.
Before replacing the front & rear screens I painted the whole area where the rubber sits with a few coats of Fish Oil, so it cannot happen again... I have blocked up the drain holes under the rubbers with the fish oil. Fish oil cannot rust.. Make sure You use a good brand like motorpro or power plus or Killrust.

Why did You say You needed a Safety Glass windscreen??
They are illegal, unless You cannot find a replacement, and just plain dangerous....
All those small slithers of glass going all over You... they were terrible things...
They were only meant to be used before seat belts were in use, as people (including Myself) were hurled thru the windscreen in a car accident.... but driving along and a stone is thrown up from a car going the opposite direction - and POW - firstly You cannot see thru the shattered glass... VERY dangerous- and if You are doing about 80-100kmh, a few seconds later.. ALL the windscreen will be blown over the occupants of the Car....

I have the same prob, you weld up the rust holes with new patches, make it nice and smooth put on rust treatment, paint it , window screen in. Is there a way to get at the inside of the weld joins to stop them rusting out again in six months I haven't heard about???

sorry i mean the new style glass i cant think of the name i need it cause im puttin a V6 in and its a necessity!!
so brazing will be ok??i probably just cut patches and wled them in do it properly this time while eveything's out

clean the holes out good and braze, try not to put in too much heat, distortion, otherwise solder for small holes but clean off all flux.

On the glass, original glass was Hardened glass, new windscreens are Laminated glass.
Hardened glass is actually stronger and more scratch resistant than Laminated glass.
The difference is when Hardened glass breaks it completely shatters, and either stays there blocking your vision or covers you with glass slivers.
Laminated glass, even though it breaks easier, it either gets a large split in it, or gets the little stars you often see. It doesn’t shatter or fall in your lap like Hardened glass does, so much safer.
