rust paint
Boozer - January 3rd, 2004 at 05:19 PM

Ok I am confused. Eventually I am going to put a new body on my baja and do a full rebuild and paint. we're going to take the pan back to bare metal as we didn't have enough time last time. I've heard about POR-15 and how good it is (i don't care about cost, I just don't wanna see my baja rusting again) but i've been on the site and there's also a chassis coat that everyone says is better. I've also heard of a smimilar product called Rust Bullet and how that it is superior to POR-15. So now I am confused, what should I use? It's going to be used on a daily driver baja bug that will also go on the beach fairly often.

where did you find aout about rust bullet?

and if the guys on here are saying por15 is good and youve heard the others are better. then you dont ahve a problem. if you know everybidy who is telling tyou the info then you can just pick the cheapest. otherwise rule out the advice from those you dont know until you have a choice....

I've just been on the POR site and they reckon you will get a way better result if you use POR-15 as a base coat and then put the chassis coat on top for double hard and strong protection. what do you reckon?

ps:how much do u reckon I would need to do and entire floor pan and a few other small bits?

I got 4 litres
I painted the underneath of my kombi, the inside floor and the rear inside sides and roof as it will be covered with a head liner.
I still had about 1 litre left, it sprays very thin, even though they say it is self leveling and can be brushed on, you get a better finish if you spray it.
Dont forget it is not UV stable and will fade is exposed to sunlight, underneath the floor pan will not get sun unless you roll it a lot.

Ok I've got another question then. Is there anywhere in Brisbane I can get POR or if not somewhere in Aus that I can get it shipped from? and how much would I be looking at in cost for say 4 litres which is roughly a gallon?

search this site for POR15 ,
search is on the top left on the forum index page.
There is a web address for the ozzie distributors.
Costs about $200 for 4 litres.
If you have probs getting it Try Paint Supplies of S.A.
