BEETLE REAR 1/4 PANEL: How hard to fit?
Craig Torrens - February 2nd, 2004 at 09:22 PM

I have just purchased a 1969 beetle (1 owner) that has a hit on the drivers side rear quarter. It is damaged from the door lock down to the sill, and has been pushed in about 150mm. The damage also extends about 400mm towards the rear guard. The side window area has not been affected, nor has the roof.
The car was bought for the parts, but it seems a waste to strip, as everything else is in great condition and it has done 80000miles

Question: Can you buy this section as a new part?
Has anyone ever replaced this panel?
What do you think a panel shop would charge ?
Does anyone have a shell they want to cut up to supply this part ?

Its a long shot but I thought I would ask !

A second hand section could be put in. The panel could be cut and joined just under the rear guard and cut through the pillar at the bottom of the rear window.

Anything can be done, but it can be done nasty or done right.

I would say without painting or stripping or refitting the car, just the sectionising of the panel. You may expect to pay $400-$600 to have it fitted.

It is a bit difficult to really confirm as without seeing the vehicle I cant tell if inners or sill panels are badly affected.

Once you include the cost of the panel and painting etc, it may work out more viable to source another shell to place on that pan?
