i want to change the colour of my beetle from red to green..... what would be the best way to sand and repaint the new colour??? ie sand to bare metal before new paint etc
The best way would be to go bare metal, but as you are prolly aware, will cost a bit more than your average blow over paint job.
N!
new to this paint job stuff so scuse the newbie questions....... if i dont go bare metal does that mean i would have to use more coats to make sure i cover the old colour?? and what is the best way to go to bare metal?? purely by sanding or by chemical removal???
Have a read through the 'Respray of beetle' posts at the top of the Paint & panel forum. A lot of your questions may be answered as this was a colour change respray.
thanx.... will do.
How did you go? Have you gained enlightenment?
sort of.... am in two minds as to whether to try and tackle this myself (never spray painted before so am a little worried about it) or to just do the prep work and have someone else spray it for me. I don't have any of the equipment so am also worried about the cost comparison between the two options etc... and also worried about the finish of the job if i did it compared to someone else etc..... I have already chased up a quote from a local place that will spray it if i prepare it as i realise this would be cheaper than getting them to do everything, and this would also allow me to put all my new bits on after the spray etc.... however... after saying all this nothing would give me more satisfaction than doing the entire car myself and appreciating it when it is finished.
