Hi, As soon as grimace has his final repairs done to the rear fender and bumper bar on the 15th I will prepare to paint him, Beryl Green is the colour as its probable that was the colour, ok. So there are some bubbles of rust on the engine lid, and near the windscreen, and passenger door, the rest of the car I plan to paint over, but I will fix these rust areas back to bare there is also some on the roof in the water channels, anyway my question is,

Can I use K&H cans of etch primer? will it affect the look of the car? I plan to spray using the star 770 gun i bought but I thought I could just use the cans on small areas.

Id also like to ask about the process again,

I shoot Primer, (etch prime bare metal), sand with 600grit, wax and grease remover, base, 6-8 coats?, or 4 coats and add some clear as VW54 has said before,

Colour sand and your done?

you will get a better finish using ur gun rather then spray cans!! i know its a pain in the arse cleaning your gun all the time but it saves time in the end!

You will be able to use the spray cans etch primer for spot repairs and rub it back before you put your paint on, just be sure that when you rub it back that no bare metal shows through.

As for the paint, what are you useing acrylic? or 2pac ?

if its two pac, normaly two or three wet coats (a couple of drop coats of metalic of pearl) then two or three clear coats. If its acrylic i have no idea as i come from the uk and we dont use it over there ,sorry

use the wax & grease remover on anything BEFORE You paint it with anything as if its painted over with primer or whatever, it can bleed thru the top coats.. I would say Yes to Using spray cans of etch primer etc.. & undercoat..
I would try to keep to the one brand of spray paint and spray cans... in case the thinners in them is different.. With Acrylic, I had a few coats of clear over the top...
then polished with a light cutting compound or linishing cream to even the painted surface... & You won't have to polish it again... just use wash & wax...
Best of Luck.. just remember every run in undercoat will show in the top coat...
