Crazy idea?!

Hi all,

Been thinking how cool it'd be to get my bumper painted to a metallic silvery colour instead of having chrome ones and it'd match the colour of my wheels! :)
Hate having to polish the bumpers every 2nd week!

I saw some old posts about painting on top of chrome parts...
It seems the way to go is to strip the bumpers off their chrome then paint on bare metal...

Has anyone done this to a pair of superbug bumpers(without indicators)? I have Brazilian ones... Roughly how much it'd be? Should I ask the painter to do it when I get my car resprayed?

Thanks,
Ron

If the bars are already rusted, then dont bother trying to paint them, the rust will come back. If they are unrusted, yes you will have to remove the chrome. If it is nice and thin it should sand off fairly easily, or you can chemically remove it. Sand blasting may not be really effective, but you can try it if you like.

Should only cost abot $200 extra to get them painted.

some great hotrods getting around with this treatment at the moment. there was an orange 57 chevvy a while back (couple of years) with the silver painted chrome and it looked magnificent. also an austin a-30 featured in street machine.
