Hi All. My vehicle is a '76 Type 2, Bay Window Dormobile, 2 litre auto. Best vehicle I ever had. The floor of the battery compartment has rusted
out, so I simply transferred the battery to the left hand rear corner. I thought I had neutralized any acid and killed the rust, But...
it has eaten through the chassis rail underneath the old battery area, (where the bumper and towbar bolt on), and also devouring the body panel
underneath the right hand tail lamp.
Looks like I have to find a good right rear corner panel, complete with chassis rail, and then get a guy to weld it all in, to roadworthy standard,
in order to be assured of continued insurance cover. The muffler has to come off, to allow the panel worker access, then he thinks it would be much
easier if the motor were taken out completely. I've only seen one panel repair shop so far, and he can't do an accurate quote, plus I have to
locate the rear panel myself. Your advice and reccomentdations, please.
