2 questions:

I am considering getting a heater channel replaced in my 71 1302- and the place I am talking with wants the body lifted off the floor pan about 200mm - so not a complete body off but lifted.

I am wondering if I can get away with leaving things like the fuel tank attached (I'm pretty sure I've got enough length in the flex hose from the tank to the tunnel) and the steering attached? And the engine in place?

Anything else I should consider?

The cars interior is stripped out, guards and bonnet are off, glass is out, doors are off- But suspension, steering, motor etc are all intact.

And #2
Has anyone replaced their door hinges using one of those oversized hinge pin kits? Is it do-able with hand tools or is a drill press job that I'd be better to let the engineer do?

I haven't replaced hinges, however was thinking about getting the passenger side done. Everyone I spoke to suggested it wasn't a job to do at home. A three person job. One to hold the door, one to heat the hinge and one to beat the crap out of the pin. There is also a chance of breaking the hinge of the door. I still haven't been game as our paint job is too precious.
A panel beater friend mentioned that he had a hinge pin puller. This may be the better option.

As for the body off bit I found a vw trends article on line here:

I think I may try to separate the steering at the centre tie rod (its a super), but the article pointed out brakes (ie fluid reservoir), accelerator cable, starter motor and engine wiring.
