hey guys looking for ideas on how to get a nice smooth finish on the seam that starts at the bottom of the door and runs up along the roof and down the back to the deck lid. Is there some kind of flexible sealant available that will give a smooth finish that can be painted over.If so how and when should it be applied ?under the primer or under the top coat i am painting in auto acrylic cheers david

One option is using sikaflex/dripchek. Just use masking tape to mask a nice neat gap. Follow directions and apply before paint as can be painted over.

At work we find 3M Dripchek to shrink too much.

Sikaflex makes a hell of a lot of sealants and adhesives. You need to get one that is a sealant, not adhesive and not too sticky.

We use a 3M sealant which unfortunatley I dont have the product code for, but it is ochre in colour and has a very smooth finish that paint sticks well to. It does not shrink and isn't sticky to apply. It is designed to also be used in their spray sealant gun.

You put it on over the primer/ putty and haze some primer over it also once applied. This can be done while the sealant is still wet.

Check the 3M website and also ask your supplier or painter what they are comfortable with using. Making sure you explain exactly what you need it for and that you want a perfect finish.
