Ok am getting ready to attempt my first paint job ,the car is blocked back from hi fill stage and i am going to put on 3 coats of primer/filler mixed 40parts acrylic paint 60 parts thinner(suggested ratio from paint supplier) as my final primer prior to top coats of satin black. My question is what fan size should i b looking for 6 inches from the gun and what is meant by double header coats. cheers in advance, David

If its final primer coat and you not going to be trying to fill deep scratches, thin it 50/50.This will make it flatter and easier to rub.
Fan size depenze on your gun, personal prefrence and stuff but a quick rule of thub hold your hand in front of the gun where the paint comes out and spead your fingers.You should be able to get a fan this wide.How ever wide you get it make sure you over lap your paint strokes.
A double header coat is a wet coat, soon as you finish a normal coat go over it again,whatching the wet edge and overlapping it.

cheers dude thanks a lot .I,m using a hvlp gun don't know if this makes any difference but the finger thing sounds good.

also find your guns "friction point" and at the end of each stroke release the gun to that point.. so you dont get heavier spray at the edges of each stroke.. this avoids runs..

maybe go to a wreckers, get an old door panel or somthing, and test the gun out.. that way you can find what gives you the even peel you want.

Thanks killa by friction point do you mean the stage of trigger at which paint flow stops and just air blows? If so this is adjustable on the hvlp gun i just bought, i have lots of old panels so a trial run is the go.

yeah, thats what i mean by friction point like on a clutch pedal hehe
