water inside bug!
Canni. - August 15th, 2004 at 04:06 PM

I have a problem with water getting inside the bug (in door pillar near the drivers door...) I've added a picture...the water is inside that bottom hole there... (black grommet covereing hole has been missing since I bought the car) I also noticed chunks of rust forming inside as I was soaking up some of the water :S I had some severe rust fixed up there last December and it hasn't filled up with water again until today (has been raining pretty heavily)

I can't figure out where the water is coming from....nor how to stop it... any ideas? I've temporarily covered the hole up with tape (until i can buy a black grommet thing) also any suggestions for a rust preventative to spray down there when I've figured out where the water is coming from?

Thanks,
Karly.

Hi Karly,
The water is coming from under the windscreen rubber...
there are 3 holes at both corners of the windscreen at the bottom for water to go if the rubber leaks...

To Use fish oil, You will have to wait until its completly dry...
Then buy a pressure pack can of deodorised Fish Oil at Big W or auto one etc... Don't buy any fish oil under $5 a can like export brand... it doesn't work...
Put the small plastic hose into the nozzle at the top of the can, and push the nozzle under the windscreen rubber up towards the top of the windscreen... the Fish oil will run down under the rubber and down thru the holes in behind the door hinges.... When its dry, You can help with a hair dryer pointed down behind the hinges from under the bonnet... I would repeat the operation a few times to make sure the fish oil spreads everywhere to stop the rust... It doesn't matter if the fish oil drips out the bottom...
At least You know its getting there....
Repeat again in the summer a few times... with the HOT temps.. the fish oil dries faster....

I would also spray into the hinge screw holes too....
You can take those plugs out with a small screw driver...
and New ones - clear or black are available....
