I am planning to strip back my kombi and then paint it. I plan to use paint stripper, and i was thinking about how i would be able to do the roof!
Does anyone have any tips on how to access and strip the roof!??
cheers
well, i am going to the shop tomorrow to do just that, so i can tell you exactly then, but it sounds like the lower half of the car is being taped up and then i am up on a ladder painting on the stripper then scrape, scrape, scrape!!
sounds like fun then!
i used a long plank of wood (like on scafolding) between two work horses or you couild use 2 latters find that to be the best!!
cheers

if you are going to use stripper i would recommend this...since i just did it yesterday...use something...coarse sandpaper will do, and rub hard and get alot of scratches down to the metal in the section that you are going to strip, this allows the stripper to get under the paint, wait for it too bubble really well or you will end up using more stripper and having to do it twice, get a good scraper with a good edge on it, if there are sections that wont bubble, use the edge of the scraper to scrape the paint down then recover it and wait, waiting is hard, but wait, i wouldnt spread too much on at once over too big a surface area, but make sure it is fairly thick, dont put on striper farther than you can comfortbaly reach as you dont want to be leaning over the roof as stripper burns, just do it in 1/3s, like do first 1/3(from side to side not front to back), then go to the opposite side and do the middle 1/3, then stay on that side and finish the last 1/3 section. Look for the the little spider like early rust and get rid of it, we sand blasted every single one of them then powered sanded the rest of surface, it took us along time, it is alot of metal, so be patient, and do it in a well ventialed space. If you are using stripper i suggest keeping a wet rag nearby as it burns and you can wipe it off quickly as water neutralises it...abit anyway. You may know all of this, or you may think this is crap...but its how i just did it and it worked..o yeah, dont forget to have a bucket handy to put the scrapings.:beer
thanks for that, and how long would you leave it before painting it. i figure that the shorter the better but how long did you leave it?
after we stripped it we cleaned it with prepsol then sandblasted and sanded any surface rust then washed it again then put it in etch prime. Will be putting colour on soon.
thanks for the info.
