Putting stencil graffiti on your ride - how?
jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 04:44 PM

Don't cringe...if it can't be done smick I won't do it cos I've got Bel looking so good right now....

This is an idea I've had since last year...long before the resto started.......and I haven't told my restorers yet ...well hardly anyone....but now it is really on my mind...and if I'm gunna do it it's gotta be done soon while she's in the shop....

This site is the ultimate one I've found...you can get lost in it for hours...look at tyRONE and psalm...I like their styles...but there are so many others as well but these two are in Melbourne...The gallery is massive...some brilliant stuff...

http://www.stencilrevolution.com/profiles/index.php?id=1

Here's a link to the Stencil Festival which was held in Melbourne

http://www.stencilfestival.com/profiles.htm

Stencil graffiti has a political history.... propaganda and protest both...but now it is being used for artistic creativity as well.....

Bel's feminine...so don't want anything dark in theme or image....

Don't know if Eva Peron has been done to death but here's a nice image of her that might look good in stencil...I sorta think it would suit to look of Bel....with her colour...black canvas...and solid visor

It would go on her doors.....Once Bel is a bit more together I'll get a pic of her side on and play with photo shop maybe...

This is a book I bought last week....it's excellent...Click on the images in the gallery....some of them are so good

http://www.stencilgraffiti.com/archives_02.html

I love this Geisha as well....her Komono is about the same colour as Bel's paint...but I think a more simple black on the blue will look better

twoguns - September 7th, 2004 at 05:02 PM

i love teh idea...

vw54 - September 7th, 2004 at 05:04 PM

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 05:21 PM

.....I knew u'd say that Dave......or not say it.....

....ok I know there's gunna be a lot of gasping.....

vw54 - September 7th, 2004 at 05:25 PM

Pixie dust ... ( HA HA ) rubbed in the right area .... would be good....
make your eyes sparkel... n shine.

So is from the book shop. ??? would you apply them to the doors... ??? i would say you would need a clear sealler over them to protect.

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 05:35 PM

Thanks Dave my thoughts too....thinking some sort of clear sealer...

The book I got from Polyester in Brunswick St last Saturday.... kinky shop....

pyr0 - September 7th, 2004 at 05:52 PM

silver - September 7th, 2004 at 05:56 PM

I don't know Jen, it might spoil her It would maybe be Ok on a rat look or something, but she is going to be beautiful they way she is....

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 06:05 PM

I like the mood of Eva up top there......

or then...I could go the 50's VW woman....totally different feel....I like the sultry intense rather than the prissy domestic...

....maybe a German Fraulein?

....Marlene Dietrich!!!

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 06:08 PM

silver...thanks...I know she is and I know a few people will be concerned about my idea...but it won't be done unless well done...and photo shopped before anything real happens...

killakornkobb - September 7th, 2004 at 09:17 PM

hey jen..
i agree with silver..

but you could get stickers made up.. of what the colours would be thru the stencil.. and put them on-top of each other to get the look like that geisha.. like a temporary tattoo.. as painting it on is kinda like a real tattoo :|

i reckon you should go for just a black stencil of bob marley on Dr L :)

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 11:31 PM

Damian...for Dr L...I'd go find a pic of Dr Livingston....the only choice for him easy....it's his namesake.....

I love the Geisha but it is not Bel....it's just an example of stenciling I think it would suit a kombi more....it need a bigger canvas...

jenz58 - September 7th, 2004 at 11:46 PM

Please don't take every stencil I put up here as what I'm wanting...but here's a kombi for someone... it's from a wall in Oxford UK

killakornkobb - September 8th, 2004 at 07:16 AM

i didnt mean just the geisha:) but the stickers would B a neat way of "trying out" any design choice on the car itself.. and can be peeled off:)

HotRodMatt - September 8th, 2004 at 09:28 AM

Don't know about Eva (Don't Cry For Me I'm A Nazi) Peron but the idea is kinda cool

VWFREAK - September 8th, 2004 at 02:00 PM

cool idea, I thinks you would have to careful with your pic selection to suit your car.

jenz58 - September 8th, 2004 at 08:02 PM

Matt you're a star!!!!! :kiss

I'll keep throwing ideas toward u ... OK :thumb

As soon as Bel gets her black canvas on we'll get a better idea of the look...not sure on that on....

OK I'll try and find a retro type VW chick...or image....

Work with me on this one...I know u know what I'm talking about, or sorta after...I think... :)

Maybe Mrs Bubble Head?

Found an alley way in the CBD full of stencil graffiti...gunna go back with SLR

jenz58 - September 9th, 2004 at 09:08 PM

Hey in the alley way off of Centreway Arcade between Collins and Flinders Lane...where all the stencil graffiti is Meek had done a row of Ned Kelly images which were very cool....

No I'm not going 4 Ned either...but really well done...love it.... Going back on the weekend with camera......

Lots of other lanes off of Flinders Lane with stencils but this one is THE place to show them..... Figured if I hang out there a bit I might find out more.....

bugeyedbabe - January 10th, 2005 at 12:40 PM

hi,

I know I am sooo very late on this string, but if you haven't yet doen the stencil (and I am pretty sure you would have) what about this idea...

Vivien Liegh. there are some geat pics at Vivien-Leigh.com

I am nto a star, but when I saw youd car was named bel..

well my thinking went...Bel, femine...great legends of olde hollywood.

Southern belle....Gone with the wind....Vivien Leigh.

Okay, I know it is stupid...but it you go there, there are some great portrait shots that could be transferred to single/twin color stickers/stencils

Like said, it is just a thought...and probably a late one at that.

Cheers
D4

akean1 - January 16th, 2005 at 09:59 AM

go for it jenz, hot rod mats image gives you a good idea, personaly i recon bigger is better, maybe fill the whole door! if you use "belton" brand spray pac you shouldnt need a clear cover. i tried a really small one on a friends car with no preping except for a quick wipe with my sleve, and it hasnt budged. oh, im pretty sure that ned kelly stencil is done by "HA HA"

kustomkool - January 17th, 2005 at 01:05 PM

I will stencil your car no worries.

ColumBUS - January 17th, 2005 at 01:52 PM

get a stencil of david hassellhoff

seriously jenz im getting some graffiti art done up in nsw, cant be much different stencilling. i know we have to clear coat the graffiti when its done. but i stongly advise to get a professional! that way you have somebody to sue when they stuff it up.

i really hope it goes well. i always thought marylin monroe or audrey hepburn would look good on bel.

splittychick - January 17th, 2005 at 02:26 PM

Kikko,i find your obsession with David Hasselhoff very amusing.......:D

Hey Jen....are you still thinking about stencilling Bel?Haven't heard you talk about it for a while.

jenz58 - January 17th, 2005 at 03:07 PM

lol David Hasselhoff never yucky!!

Mandie...no not thought much more but in the back of my mind all the time ....I'm just glad to have Bel home now...there are a couple of things that need fixing up like her drivers door handle but was waiting for everyone to get out of holiday mode....

akean1...thanks for the info....I luv the stencil image .... I sorta collect those Two Girls type images

The way that Mango car, that does all the shows, has it's stencil under the front guard is kinda cool...like a hidden tattoo .... maybe I'll do that so it's not so intrusive an a clean car
