I'm looking at purchasing my first gravity spray gun after owning a 1.8mm general purpose Samson suction gun for many years. I want to use the gravity gun for both primer/filler and top coats as gravity guns seem to be more preferred these days. My question is what is the required/proper tip setup for spraying primer/filler and top coats using acrylic. I'm looking at spending between $100-$200 so any ideas on which brands would be great also.

I bought an Arnold gravity gun, it is made in Tiawan for DeVillbis, it cost $140 and came with 2 tip set ups, one was 1.6 the other 2.0mm,
Only used 2 pac with the 1.6 but I believe the 2.0 would spray primer filler.

good call. exspect to spend upwards of 150 for anything half decent. I've spent in total 1400 on samson spray guns x 2, from blackwoods. Great bit of kit but pricey.

In the price range you are talking a trempro would be your best bet. for $180 you get a 1.4 set up(for your 2 pac) and a 2.0 set up (for the primers) They do other deals as well like just a 1.4 set up for $140 but with the first one i said about u get the best of both worlds. Its not a HVLP but it sprays 2 pac fine.

Thanks for everyones input, however I'm not using 2pac. I just need to know what the correct tip setup is for acrylic lacquer with a gravity style gun. Thanks again.

my t3 is the first car i've ever painted....i bought a star 770...should be able to pick one up from about $90-110.
very basic gun, but has all the adjustments needed for spraying...and let me tell u she does the job. its a great gun, holds a litre of paint, u can get it in a gravity version but mine is suction. and u will need a 2.omm or 1.8 for acrylic...i think those numbers are right. all i was told is to spray acrylic u need the bigger tip...2-pac is smaller.... i have sprayed my whole car with the gun, primer and the yellow through the same gun....works a treat.

Thanks for everyone's input. I ended up purchasing an Arnold gravity spray gun for $150.00. It came with two setups, (1.4 & 2.0mm). I have yet to try it out.

i spent bout $200 on a STAR gun.... money well spent i must say

Star have a new range of guns out. "New Century" I was so impressed I got a Century suction 2.0 for acrylic work and a 2.5 gravity for putty work. I was prepared to spend the extra $20 over the older models to get a newer style gun. They also have HVLP guns.

I saw a copy someone bought of a Star 770 (Which is itself a copy of the Iwata S77) and the quality was really just not there. There is a limit sometimes to how cheap you can go.

Still at the end of the day a good painter with a half decent gun will always do a better job than a lazy prepping or poor painter with the best gun available.

Good choice.can't beet the arnold with twin nozzle setup. 1.4/2.0. ideal for two pac and acrylic.copy of a top shelf gun. , and cheap.
