What is the correct method/steps for painting aluminium?

Coat it with a non ferrous primer like the stuff you use for galvanised iron etc.

But the real question is, why paint something that you can polish to a high shine?

use a good quaulity etch primer then followed by a under coat.some under coats combine an etch.
