In one of the excellent guides to painting the bug, I noticed that a roller was used to apply the basecoat (undercoat) On the can of paint I purchased there are no directions for applying the paint with a roller, so here is the question :

Do i thin the paint, and if so what ratio of undercoat paint to thinner.

The roll on primer/filler method is a system used by panel shops when doing spot repairs and not recommended for whole panels.
The product used in the article was PPG two pack PRIMA, and is thinned as per instructions on the tin. It is a 5:1:1 ratio PUTTY:HARDENER:REDUCER.
I know that Spies Hecker also do a primer/filler product that is roll on friendly.
As for using roll on with other products or acrylic putty I don't know. The technique used to put on the PPG product is to start large and finish small area, using about 4 coats. You need to roll it on so you dont get lines as they are harder to rub out.

I have the "ornary" grey primer stuff, but guess i'll get a lot of practice on spraying the primer, and be an "expert" spray painter when it comes to the coloured stuff.
