hi all painting gurus
im thinking of picking up a old big window 57 beetle for resto
the pan and bod are pretty much rust free but she has been painted in house paint many years ago
i allready have a collection of sweet replacment panels bonnet, gaurds etc that i was going to use on my 62 but a west german model would be more
deserving
my question is
i want to take the bod back to bare metal can i remove paint from a section at a time over time and etch prime, roof ,sides etc and how long can i
leave it with just etch(under cover),before i have to prime/fill /paint
thanks
bob
and what is a good etch primer
i already have 4ltrs of pps 2pac grey and 4lts of 2k high build primer
Is that PPG Grey and hi build?
I would suggest a PPG two pack etch primer and follow all instructions as per data sheet and on the can. The paint supplier will be able to supply all
this plus a MSDS which will give you all the info on how poisonous it is.
I would not leave a vehicle in primer for more than 8 weeks now it is getting more moist and cooler. Probably no more than 12-16 weeks in warmer drier
months. That is my opinion.
Dupont make a sealer (dupont 840 I think it's called). Apparently you can leave it for years. It costs $250 for 4 litres though. You can apply
certain fillers and primers straight over the top of it.
ADAM.....
thanks hellbus
is that 8 weeks in etch or primer/filler
8 weeks in etch, then prep and 8 weeks in primer/filler
