Hi peoples,
About to cutout the floor of my 65 panel van, never done it before.. what problems did you come across, and any tips?
Cheers, Tim
i agree , i did mine with a grinder dont recomend doing that a drill designed for drilling out these welds would be ideal
I got one
How do you find the spot welds on the actual floor section? Easy on the edge...
I have seen pictures on http://www.metwiz.com in the archives and he usually cuts the
floor either side of the I beams or top hats and then air chissels the bits off the I beams or drills the spot welds out. Is your floor really that
bad? If you do cut it out I would be interested in some of the off cuts. Got any photos
Nicko
the floor is all rat shite, seriously you wont want any!!
do you need rust filings?
There's two sorts of sections under a cargo floor
I beam sections and 'top hat' sections - have a look
you can see what I mean... the spot welds are very tough
- not yer pop apart type...
You can air chisel the floor off the I beam sections
OK, but you're better drilling out the spot welds on
the top hat sections - air chiseling just chops em up big time...
I would do another run of cargo floor repair panels if there
was enough interest. Need to do 30 pieces to make a run worthwhile (and I think Roy at ClassicVW (Pacific) is
also importing the LHD brazilian cargo floors....)
