jaymesobryen - November 2nd, 2005 at 02:46 PM

Hey there, I'm a newbie doing up my 71' Type 3 Fastback and i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on the sort of price I should be paying for a re-spray, I want to change the colour from green to black and I want it to be gloss black not metallic.

Thanks

Assuming you will be paying a panel shop, budget around $4000 as long as your body is in good shape

How long is a piece of string!?

how much are you prepared to and able to do?

whats the $ figure you have in mind - this will dictate what u need to do and the quality of job you'll get

ive just done my bug in 2 pac and i did all the prep and then gave it to someone to paint and it cost me 2.5 grand to do it and thats after all the panel shops passed on it and dicked me around.

I have had quotes from $2000 for a simple spray over my prep work,a dn do the masking to over 7K for a proper respray plus any major rust work.

I spent around $2000 just in materials by doing it all myself - but it took me 8 months and that included all rust/panel/paint work.

Depends if you go back to bare metal (much more expensive), or just spray over what you have (obviously with some prep work). You will always save heaps by doing as much disassembly yourself as possible - just think all the shit work you would hate to do....if you want someone else to do it, be prepared to pay.

The notch goes in for a complete re-spray in January...$3000 all up. But I have to supply rust free deck lid, doors, front quarter panel and rear qp. It's also a perfect time to replace all the old rubbers too, so don't forget to budget for that. Good luck

at one of the shops i work at.. 8-9k for colourchange, no rust repairs, and enginebay left original colour.. but thats repairing any dents, scratches etc, and a TOP quality job (we mainly to late model BMW, VW porsches etc..

hi, I had a quote for my morris minor to be rubbed back and resprayed (but the existing paint was in good condition, and no rust or panel work) for $3000 in two pac.
All the best!
