repairing drop gates?

hey
anybody done repair work on drop gates before i looked of rob kings post about repairing his and he has said it is a fiddly job and time comsuming which costs $$$$$
i need to replace about as much as he did (bottom 2-3 inchs) is it as simple as a box section?
any ideas?

I'm going to pull mine apart to restore them. From what I can see their spot welded together. You can seperate them into there seperate pieces, do the repairs and weld them back together.

I think that Indian have repair sections for drop gates that they get custom made in small numbers. I've seen them un-pick the welds on gates before, guess that is what makes it time consuming as too much heat must bend them out of shape.

They also use a Magnabender to fold them too. Not that you can get one of them at Supacheap...try yer local high school metal shop...
