I have a straight petrol tank that has a mixture of surface rust and crusty paint on the exterior and minimal rust on the
interior..........................................so what do I need to do to restore it back to new?
Some questions:
Do I get it acid dipped?
How do I restore the inside to stop it rusting?
Do I need special primers and paints?
Can I take it somewhere in Sydney to have all this done?
Cheers

there is a POR product out for the inside of fuel tanks
Thanks Pod.
The POR fuel tank restoration kit contains all the stuff you will need. A cleaner, a rust remover and a coating. Last time I bought one it cost around $100. The great thing about it is that you can reuse all the ingredients afterwards, and the sealer is sufficient to do at least two tanks if you are careful.
dont do it indoors either or you will see puple enephants floating around!
There are a number of tank liner systems around.
My preference has been to get the tank dipped, powdercoated the do the lining while forgetting the acid strip component of the liner kit as its
already been dipped to clean all the grunge anyways.

So is it better to powdercoat or 2pac paint?
Will the powdercoaters "freak out" doing a petrol tank!
Hi Craig
I used the POR tank sealer on the inside and was very pleased with the results. ideally, you'd chuck a length (one meter?)of thick chain into the
tank after you drain the fuel and air it out to evaporate the residual. Agitate the hell out of it so the chain abrades the inside rust and old fuel
scales (or whatever). Then you rinse it out with hot water several times as per the instructions included with the POR tank kit. If you can find
someone else to split the kit with you, half the contents of the kit will be more than enough to seal one tank - make a tech/beer day of it!
Not sure if you should do the outside finish first. But I suppose to be on the safe side, do the outside last in case of any spills whilst sealing the
tank. We all know that POR doesn't come off in a hurry!
I'll go halvsies with the POR tank kit and beer...
Powder coating is harder, cheaper and petrol resistant.
PS: I paid $110 for my tnka kit.. so after splitting it.. $55
Cheers To all.
