rust in gutter (super beetle)
t2 - June 21st, 2006 at 12:55 PM

i have a couple of small rust issues in the rear seams on both sides in the gutters near the deck lid, i ground back all the crap etc to see what exactly i was dealing with , then i pulled the seam back and cut out of the rust ,then i thought maybe i am going about it the wrong way , has anyone had the pleasure of dealing with something similar , or is the way i am doing it ok?

The flow thru ventilation in Supers [and late non supers]
contains a yellow foam material which seems to suck moisture in from the air...
and the Rust gets in.....
I had a 74 Beetle with a few rust bubbles...
When I investigated with a screwdriver...
It was only paint left for about 200mms on either side...

some people fill the vents in....
but its usually too late nowdays...
as the rust is there.... already....

You may be lucky....

Without the flow thru vents....
Rust isn't a big problem in that area....

Best of Luck
