VWRX paint. Lets hear your ideas for a paint colour/scheme
reub - May 4th, 2003 at 02:56 PM

Well, in a couple of months I hope to have my car ready for paint and would like to ask for some suggestions and ideas for paint schemes and colours for the bug. I've been finxed on an idea but would love to hear what you all have to suggest.

Here are a couple of pics if any of you wish to express your ideas in photoshopped form.

keep the matt black, but have a 2 tone with a pastel blue or something on the side panels.

(1) Go the Candly Apple Burgendy dripping or flashed with chrome over a stark / polar white or cream.

(2) Like the racing stripe/s idea too. It's low enough to sport stripes with out looking to "G'day, I'm a wanker!"ish.

Don't agree with the flames - power plant too modern and would avoid the matt black (even though it does look good) as that was the previous owners choice and it wouldn't be seen as your car. Would seem like you just bought it as is.

My 2c

I've got it... I've got the answer
here it is

Herbie - May 4th, 2003 at 11:23 PM

Or maybe this

Herbie - May 4th, 2003 at 11:36 PM

or even this

reub - May 4th, 2003 at 11:42 PM

Keep them coming guys. Love to see and hear them.

As for Herbie on steroids, how cool would that be. :)

Depending on your pockets Reub, have you thought about the rnage of Chameleon paints ? (also called Chromalusion i think).

The one that comes to mind is a deep green / purple metallic colour filp.

Also a gold / purple metallic colour flip would be sweet.

Failing that - Porsche Guards Red (like mine !!!) or (not everyone like this one) Commodore Tiger Eye Gold.

Hows the rebuild coming along ?

I've managed to find a set of EMPI 8 spokes, and am trying to sort out the front end shimmies and shakes now :)

Cheers

How possible do you think you second pic would be herbie with the black cracked surface. Would that be possible or fairly fictional. I actually really like that. I'm thinking for the Dog-O-War. Never seen anything like it.

I would like to paint it black or Gun Metal Grey Hammertone but the father-in-law reckons the paint wouldn't harden enough to be usable.

Herbie - May 5th, 2003 at 07:41 PM

I have seen hammertone used in various form equally unsuccessfully, its to hard to make hammertone look like anything other than thats all the paint you had left in the shed and you thought you would give it a try.
As for the cracked paint look, it is easy and cheap to do, use GMH black because its water proof and make a template or stencil for a few different shapes and air brush the cracks using the stencil for your hard lines, have a play with an old panel or something.
I am tempted to paint a car to look like it is absolutely swamped with rust with holes as well you can paint a hole in the doors with some legs showing through and a hole in the front where you can see the spare wheel and a hole in the back where you can see the engine, all done with paint and shellac with water to make the fake rust.
