Colour Codes
DAVROS - February 27th, 2007 at 04:07 PM

I have done lots of searching, and I can't work out what colour code my car is. I found one post here from vw54 in which Dave said that Aussie cars had different colours? Does anyone have any more knowledge on this subject?

DAVROS - February 27th, 2007 at 06:36 PM

interesting stuff, my VIN is 2994021, and the rego says 1960... and the car is a turquoise blue colour. so the pacific blue looks really close, but would all this make sense?

vw54 - February 27th, 2007 at 07:12 PM

lift up the carpets and have a squize at the colour

yep, the car has been repainted... but underneath is definitely a colour very close to pacific... the car seems like a real bitsa... low fuel tank, sprung bonnet, H rear apron, rear lights with out turn signals, no semiphores, reserve fuel switch... some old, some new? thats why the colour does not make sense, am I right?

DAVROS - February 28th, 2007 at 11:19 AM

these are supposedly aussie Dulux colours...

http://www.clubvw.org.au/colour_identification.htm#1961

61 has Pastel Blue L 391 which looks like...

could this be closer?

DAVROS - February 28th, 2007 at 11:23 AM

and in the 1960's colours they list a Strato Blue...

thanks guys, would you be able to give me the break down for Pastel Blue, and while you're at it New Alabaster?

Thanks... gunna get me some paint mixed today...

vw54 - March 2nd, 2007 at 10:18 AM

the Pastel blue is of an origional colour chip and shows the mix formular

vw54 - March 2nd, 2007 at 10:20 AM

the New Alabaster is unfortunatly a copy of a copy but it shows the mix formular

double click and you can read them easy

Hi vw54, I think the colour I am after is 1958 summer blue, but I cant read the formula. Would you be able to help? Were any other bluey grey colours available in 58?
Thanks Steve

DAVROS - March 6th, 2007 at 11:15 AM

right... I went to my paintshop... and they don't have "new" codes for these colours!

how do convert them over to Dupont single stage?

DAVROS - March 6th, 2007 at 12:57 PM

they say these colours are 2K...

vw54 - March 6th, 2007 at 03:54 PM

try ringing PPG technical line thats what i did for my early colours no probs

1958kafer - March 7th, 2007 at 10:22 AM

Hi, TYP-114 according to the paint chart that you posted, summer blue is also a 58 colour. The only reason that I am persisting with this is because it is so close to the origional colour, and I need to find the paint formula.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

1958kafer - March 8th, 2007 at 10:11 AM

TYP-114, I cant read the paint formula for summer blue. Is it easier to read it on the original. If so can you type it out for me.
Thanks

ok~TYP-114
My local auto paint place, has Dulon paint chip code books, pretty much the same style on your web site, it has year specific 1961 Aust. & they match up with what is on the clubvw site & checked out samba, all my vin numbers match(61 Beetle)~! Problem! thought the colour was the turquoise, but the sample pot is too dark~ is the colour pacific blue?? behind my spare wheel under the hood is a badge with B 8446? Hope you can help me out?~ thanks
Sime!

pod - April 22nd, 2007 at 02:18 AM

my 61 is turquoise and i had it mixed by protec paints and it is darker than the original colour behind the spare ,have been told it looks bluer by people ,easiest is to try and get it colour matched to a part with the original colour,as most paint places should be able to do it,i had the ruby red on my daughters car matched closer to the red fender beading with a piece of beading about an inch long:thumb
