Hi everyone in Perth,
I am currently restoring/customising my 1969 beetle and would like to know if anyone can recommend a panel & paint place in Perth?
I am planning on taking it back to bare metal, and am currently stripping everything out of it. I also plan on removing the body from the pan and
doing the pan restoration myself. Can anyone give me advice on this project??
Please help.
Hola,
Get a copy of Perth Street Car magazine. There are some Panel and Paint places that you can call.
Its best to go see them and see their work as not all painters are keen to work on bugs....
Also bear in mind that Acrylic is cheaper than 2K...white is cheaper than black.....and black is cheaper than Kandy!

hey if you happen to find any where decent, any chance you could post it on here, as I'm in mandurah and there's not alot of info I can find
regarding restoration around here.
I'm doing the same as you, back to bare metal and most of the resto myself. What a nightmare eh
Cheers

There are a few panel and paint places that will put color only on for cash....usually on the w'end. You'll have to call in and speak to the
foreman.
It takes most of the day depending what color/paint you want.(cleaning, masking, paint, bake etc)
ps: if you guys are doing most of the work yourselves why not try and paint the car yourself too? Its the best way to learn.....

Problem is, I don't really have anywhere that is suitable to do the job myself. I live in a unit and may not be able to strip the body myself. I can do most of the detachable parts (e.g. fenders) at my parents house but cannot do the body there (no access).
Nat, I will definitely post it up here. May take a while as I haven't quite got the money up to do the paint job. I am looking at around June / July
time.

yeah cheers steve that would be ace as I'm saving the pennies rapidly and will prob be painting mine the same time.
Gonna prime it myself, but top coat I want looking ace so would rather someone who knows what they're doing do it

The top coat will only ever be as good as whats beneath it so spend as much time getting that straight.
Also, some colors/paint(eg dark pearls, metallics) require a higher finish of work.
Good luck with it all-W

If $ was no option you could take it here....W
Hey cheers for that!
I think I'm just gonna replace the panels that need it, and then paint it myself too. If I get the top quality gear there's no reason why I won't
be able to do a pro job on it. hopefully :S
So hopefully that site will be of help to Steve?!
Thanks again
You will be hard pressed to find somewhere decent that doesnt have a 6 month or more waiting list.
Memory Lane Auto's mentioned above and Rowe and Sons in Kenwick is very good, but like anywhere that has a good reputation will have a shocking
waiting list as everyone else wants them to do their car too.
We managed to find somewhere who would paint my candy apple paint, but that was only because we had done all the prep ourselves already, and because
we knew the guy.

This may be of help if you are prepping yourself- may take a few monyhs to get in.
