T3 Roof Extension Possible?
skintsaint - October 30th, 2007 at 11:07 AM

Hi

I own a 1990 T3 Transporter and we are trying to find out more info on if and how to go about fitting a extendable roof on it.

Has anyone ever done this or is it not worth it cost wise?

Cheers
Skint

extendable roof??? do you mean a pop top or a fixed fibre glass high roof?
i've done both, they are fiarly easy to do, you need a couple of mates to give you a lift putting either on the van.
you dont need to brace the van, but do not cut the spar above the driver/passanger, that keeps the vehicles main strength.

BIG TIP...... MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE!! you dont want a really really big sun roof!
have fun!!

Hi Jon,

Seems you are the man who know all about these! haha

Yeah we are looking for a pop-top, sounds pretty easy to do. Any idea where the best place to find out to buy?

Cheers

hi skint. if you can find a reimo or a trakker pop top, they fit really close to the roof still allowing you to enter multistory car parks and other car parks with height barriers.
they are easily avaliable in europe but i've no idea where you would get one in Oz, try looking in camper magazines for conversion companys, or see if you can find a camper wreckers. itsa a long shot but ...... cheers jon

You werent wrong, this is a bit of a challenge. Everywhere ive enquired havent got either a pop top or a fibre high roof.

Think this is going on the back burner for now ;)
