Full Respray and Seals
NullaDub - November 18th, 2008 at 01:02 PM

Folks,

My 58 beetle is about to go in ( over xmas ) to get a full respray. At the same time I am of course going to replace all the seals.

Does anyone have any general advise about seals....quality, brand, which type last longer / is better.

Or any little tips they have learnt post full resprays.

West coast metric seals - shame the dollar is bad - you could of ordered for the whole car.

Where abouts are you and who are you using to do the respray job? I also have a 58 and am in 'the shire'

Hey Mick,

I'm in Yarrawarrah, we should touch base so I will PM you.

Paint and Panel : Burraneer Smash Repair..... I have a contact there but am more than happy to get another quote if you can recommend someone local.

All the seals rubbers are available from Vintage at Campsie 9789-1777 ( discount for forum members )

take the time to remove and crud and old rubber around the windows seal areas before you get it painted

this will help when installing the new rubbers and make them seal better

also center the rubbers on the glass when installing are you doing Cal look or using the chrome trims ???

Yep, I am deep in de crudding as you read this. Most things disconnected and drained so this weekend I am going to drop out the old motor ( it's rubbish ) and remove all the gauges etc. Then we are just about ready for it to go to the Panel shop.

I will make sure I put some before during and after shots up. Also some photo's of any bits that get special treatment once they 'appear' during the rub back.

At this point I am going to go with Chrome Trims and the car will be a shade of Beige. It's the original colour and while I am not going for a return to stock I'm not into the Cal look.

Biege / Black and Polished Fuchs / Red interior / 1916 Motor.... and that's about as far as my thinking has gone
