Has anybody out-there had repairs done to the canvas in their poptop? Ive got a couple of slashes (bush-camping battlescars) in the canvas on the
classic sunliner style poptop. Just wondering if anybody knows of any biz's in Melbourne that might have experience in this. All the trimmers
I've been to have thrown it into the too hard basket (better known as the can't be phucked basket). Any help would be much appreciated.
Over and Out.:repuke
what sort of repairs are you talking? patches or whole panel? how big are the holes?
I'm talking a couple of slahes about 400mm long running horizontally. I also need to replace the mesh on both sides on the flaps that fold down . Have you had this work done before? Any help would be much appreciated.
Try a canvas tent maker, or a truck tarp mob, or a boat canopy mob, mabey even a caravan repairer, some caravans are pop tops, with similar canvas
curtains.
Just a thought!
Rob.....
Yeah i figured that. Awhile back I went to a campervan place in Ringwood, they threw up some crazy figures to replace the whole thing and i walked away shuddering. I need to find some ol' timer who'll do it without wanting to replace the whole thing.
Yes thats the unfortunate fact, jobs of this kind cost lots of dollars, nobody is going to do it on the cheap, you cant even purchase the canvas at a
discount price to do it yourself, I was a bit luckyier than you in this problem, I worked for a transport company and Knew the tarp maker that our
company used, I removed the old sleeve, and he made me a new one out of left overs, all the same colour of course, and I had to install it myself, I
had to rent the equipment I needed to install it again. it looks like this is your only option!
Rob........
just wondering what tools and hard it was to replace the whole canvas your self... the camper i just bought came with out the canvas installed... and am starting to track down a bit of info on doing it myself..... the quotes i got for doing were crazy..
Hi. There's a place in Jersey Rd. Bayswater. They will probably sell you some offcuts of canvas if you ask. If you're lucky you may get a close
colour match. They're on the East side about halfway down. Check the yellow pages if you need the street number.
Also there's another manufacturer of canvas goods in Canterbury Rd. Bayswater. ( Can't remember their name). And yet another in Frankston -
Dandenong Rd. Carrum Downs, who stock 10 or 12 ounce material in various colours.
Can't sew it in place, except by hand, a tedious job. May have to use a flexible glue, or an iron on patch if available, or buy a roll of
canvas-backed tape from a caravan parts shop. I think I've only seen this in yellow, about 50 m.m. wide.
I'd be interested to see how you get on with this repair. Cheers.
