Hello all,
I am wondering where you can buy FlashTak on the cheap. If the name sounds weird it's what us pomms call this self adhesive 10 inch wide strip of
lead type flexible roof flashing that you use on wall to roof edge's.
It's only 10 quid a roll in the UK and great for sound deadening vehicle panels but I can't find it over here.
Help me please!!!!!!
Try a mitre 10 store. its only like 2 inch wide in a roll that i have seen. not overly cheap from memory. maybe ring jaycar and find out if they have anything that would be better....
cheers dude,
I wouldn't mind using brown bread if I can find it. Jaycar used to stock it but not in there catalogue anymore and Dynamat is a rip off. Shame on the
flashing cos it does a wickedly good job for not much cash.
Yeah, i dunno if you can get it anywider.... maybe ask a hardware if they have a catolouge on it?? they usualy get given a massive folder from the product rep and they have the full product range in there. ( i worked in hardware for 4 years) there is probs a few different products avalible.
They have Flashtac in rolls up to 300mm wide in my local Mitre Ten and also at Bunnings. The 300mm wide roll was around $100 from memory. I was going to use Flashtac but after a bit of research I found out that adhesive is not up to par for auto use. I didn't want to risk having to pull it all up if it started to peel. Dynamat may be expensive but it is far superior.
How much is dynamat??? and how much does weight does it add???
I paid $250 for 9 sheets of Dynamat. Thats about 3 1/2 square meters. Flashtac is about $100 for the same amount. Not sure I would trust Flashtac
after a few QLD summers though.
I don't know about the weight side of things. I will check the box.
The Dynamat might do a fairly good job but it's still way over-priced.
haven't had a chance to check out this FlashTak stuff but it just kinda bugs me that you can get similar in the UK for $20 a roll and it's very
sticky. Call me a meiser if you will but I dislike paying hard earned cash for something that should be half the price.
Maybe I should start importing brown bread to sell at reasonable prices........Hmmmmm, there's an idea
Here's a pic of how the Flash band in the UK looks on a pan
Comparison of sound deadener performance:

Of particular interest is the performance of the asphalt based sound deadeners and the reference to them having a higher temp rating than roofing
material.
Think the stuff I'm talking is a bit different. Also, just for talk - I belive it is Illigal to sell lead based products in AUS.... this may have something to do with it. maybe.

Try Ormonid if your after a budget floor pan dampener. $30 a can at Bunnings. Works good if you paint both sides of the pan. Its a bitumen based waterproof paint. Good stuff and cheap.
