I took out the rear screen from our 1302S today and replaced the flow through vents.
Started by pushing out the back screen and grabbing it from the outside and it popped out. Took about 37 seconds. The original screen and rubber are
still in the car, and originally they have no sealant on the rubber, so it pops out remarkably swift.
Just push on the window with your hand or feet if the rubber is too hard, and hold constant pressure while flicking the lip of the rubber with your fingers.
Grab it out from the outside after it is mostly out.
The original rubber had let dust and dirt in under it for a few years, and the important thing in this situation is to clean up that old buildup of dirt.
Here it is all cleaned up, cut & polished and you can see the two little drip holes to allow any leakage of water to drip out. I was pretty confident there would be no rust, and I was happy to find none. This is what you pay big bucks for.
This shows the old vents, and the new vents I bought from Canada. I had to paint the new vents, as they come in black fibreglass. There is/was a guy on samba.com that was getting these made. $240 Aus delivered to your door.
So I then replaced the lower headlining section with a piece I salvaged from a wreck, put the vents in, put the window in with a new quality German
rubber I had. All fitted together very well. I used a very minimal amount of sealer on the new rubber.
Some may ask why bother, and why not just cover the vent holes? Well there are 4 slots per side in the metal, and I don't think the later slot
surrounds will fit them, and just covering them removes the flow through vent. All of the options work, and as you can see replacing the vents also
works.
