I have cut my windscreen out of my kombi. It was glued in with various attempts to waterproof a completely stuffed rubber. Ive scrapped most of it
off but want to know what will dissolve it so I can phosphoric acid the trace of rust Ive wirewheeled back, fill, then paint the screen frame.
I want the paint to stick, and the silicon will prevent that. I will probably have to use it on the body too as the current paint job has been
polished with all sorts of shit over its sad excuse for a life!
My plan is to do the screen frame, put the screen back in then fix the other few bits and bobs in the body then spray the whole bus under my house. I
cannot afford the few weeks it will take with no bus. The waterleaks in the screen needed to be done first so out it came.
Any other tips welcomed inc screenmounting tips
thanks:bounce:bounce
Try some Prepsol or Wax n Grease remover
Automotive Paint thinners might work too. get a second opinion from an Auto paint shop. They should know...
If there has been actual silicon used, not mastic which dissolves, then you may have to resort to mechanical means of removeal. This would mean that
you would have to get the wire wheel to take the silicon sealer off as well.
If there is any mastic sealer then you will be able toremove that with prepsol or thinners.
i had to use a metal scraper on mine to get the silicone off
