Where to buy POR
Nickster - March 31st, 2010 at 02:02 PM

I want to wire brush, rust prevent and then paint my floorpan.
I've seen POR products mentioned on this forum before and wanted to give it a go...but I can't seem to find it. Have tried Super Cheap and Micks Motors.

Any ideas?

There is a place in Boniface St Archerfield that sells it. I just can't remember the name of it but if you want more specific directions, let me know as I can describe it for you.

POR 15 products are excellent..

after painting Your floorpan with POR15 it will be black and shiney... rustfree... rustproof
and You will need a hammer to break the paint...

its excellent..

You could try this place. http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/index.html

Looks to be the same thing as POR but is cheaper. I haven't tried it as I have POR in the cupboard still but will give it a go next time I run out.

You could try it and let us all know;)

I am using rust bullit from PPC in Nambour Qld ..the beauty is you can paint over it ...the Clamshell black is awesome! ....

I am told that KBS coatings do a very good range of coatings. RUSTSEAL is one that has been recommended as a better and cheaper (just) option than POR. $37 per 500ml plus about $10 P & P. http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au
I have bought their diamond clear coating for under the guards.

I've heard Rust Bullet is very good too...

but most have used POR15...

its all good stuff over here as We don't have the problems they have with salt in Europe and North America..
like it eats the mudguards away.... only takes one stone chip.

don't forget that POR15 chassis black is nice and glossy but if its in the sun it fades very fast... it still stays hard as though...

My Son painted a Beetle a few years ago for a fellow in POR 15

If you paint using por 15 and want it uv resistant then you need to top coat the por15 rust preventative paint with their blackcote its uv resistant.

or if you want the por15 rust paint to be even tougher and uv resistant used the hardnose 2 pak paint on top, hardnose is like ultra tough compared to regular por15  and super glossy!

I have used a lot of POR 15 products and then found out about KBS so I thought I would give them a try. The product itself seems fine (the same as POR 15), but I had issues with both tins of RUSTSEAL that they sent.
According to them I am just an idiot who does not know how to open a tin of paint, but for both tins I had to destroy the lid to get the paint out. Both lids were "locked" by the paint. They say it happens occassionally, so maybe I was just unlucky to get the 2 "occassional" tins together, but they were not interested in replacing the tins.
On the other hand I have had a couple of ordering mistakes by POR and they have happily corrected the problem. The products seem to be the same, just a bit of difference in customer service IMHO.

the word is that one of the people from POR15 left the company and started their own called, well you guessed it KBS !

This info is from a bunch of old guys in Bendigo (Perrows paints) that sell both POR15 and KBS and they are oppositions

So yeah they should be similar products, but I know POR15 products and their instructions are really well written.

My local paint specialist stocks the complete range of KBS products. KBS produce more colours, including high temp exhaust coatings and a brush on clear that is the same as POR15 but UV stable and wont break down..check out their full range!.

but por15 clear is uv stable.
