Hi lads!
I have all those sharp, hard to budge nail things that were in the pan to hold the original body to pan seal in place.
I have tried to use a hammer to jig em out but it started to dent/bend the metal surrounding it.
Is there any tips or special hints to doing it?
or just... perhaps a pinch bar and deal with it....
Chris.
grab with a set of side cutters from under neath and twist out
thanks for that i will give that a whirl!
As Dave said, but make sure you spin the right way as they have a twist on the shaft. I know you mentioned the hammer and I assume you mean a claw
hammer to try and remove. I also used a punch and hit them from the other side. Hit the point of the nail.
Kev
If you haven't already removed them, grab the heads tight with vise-grips and twist anti-clockwise while pulling out firmly.
Just done all of mine (poor old No8 '59 Beetle) - only broke 3, and they knocked out OK with a sharp punch.
Cheers, Greg
thanks heaps guys,
that worked a treat!
Pulled them out with no worries at all, and just punched out any ones that broke.
Nasty sharp looking things
I presume yr replacing the seal ( eventually )
If so use a little contact glue to hold the seal in place while fitting the body
yea the body has been off the pan, prepping for holidays coming up where the body is going back. (how many times in the past have i planned for that
moment? lol)
no worries. yea will use heaps of windscreen sealer , i'm going to
need 2 body to pan seals as well, cause i got the 2'' lift kit. it will be interesting... 'to say the least'. I'm a bit nervous in the whole
process. But will be rewarding if i see it through.

sikaflex is the stuff i believe
Hi
I suppose windscreen sealer would be OK, you need to use something that has no acid in it.
I reckon a pair of pincers would get the tacks out OK.
Wurth make stuff called Dab Off, I reckon it would be ideal. http://www.wurth.com.au/catalogueview.asp?pdf=A03_0025.pdf
Steve
no worries, Thanks guys. i will just use the body to pan seal and sikaflex. I like sikaflex too.
i got the 'spikes' off doom out of the chassis :P was no trub at all!
hopefuly get this pan and body mated again soon.
will check out that dab off :P
