Colour matching gloss black
btc-er - November 13th, 2011 at 12:26 PM

Ok, stupid question time. Do I need to colour match gloss black paint or is one gloss black the same as another?

I've just acquired some replacement panels and want to have a crack at spraying them myself, but other than the fact that the existing paint on my 61 is "gloss black" I know nothing else about it (or about paint in general obviously).

Pretty sure there are quite a few shades of gloss black.

I think you will need to match it.

You will need to get it colour matched. Take your car or a panel of the original paint to a paint store and get them to colour match it for you.

Ever black is different. VW might have 5 or more different types of black.

It was only painted in the back yard just using ordinary gloss black but that was a good 10 or so years ago.
so it probably won;t match up with any automotive paint, just a plain old gloss black enamel will do it.

And you know, for a backyard job it's holding up pretty well. From a distance it looks fantastic, and it's only when you get up close that you can see the odd paint blemish.
