One Millionth beetle?
Topaz - April 19th, 2012 at 08:58 PM

Hey, How ya all going? ;)

I am doing a bare metal re-spray... but can not decide on the color, what do you think of this??
Only problem is... putting the sequinz on the bumpers and all the chrome & keeping it clean & sparkly. :spin:
Does anyone know of another way of making the chrome glittery to mimic this?
Also does anyone know the paint code to this vehicle?
Thanks
Samantha :)

House of Colour does a lot of diffrent size metalic flakes you can add to clearcoat. If you go with the mega flake be prepared to put a lot of clear over it to get a smooth finish as it is a MEGA flake comes in a range of colours.it not cheap to buy at tub of it and you'll die with what's left!

They were diamonds or diamontes..

metallic paint was used on late model German made cars
probably for the USA market..

and I believe it was an extra cost option in the USA Earlier..

I've never seen an original metallic painted beetle in Australia..

semi auto beetles 68-76 were all made in Germany but were never painted in metallic paint when sent to Australia..

Lee

mine was painted later...lol

 I have been looking, but hadn't seen these, thanks for your help... I havent had much response to the theme of replicating the 1000000th beetle... I would have thought it would have been a very popular topic. :(

You are in Heathmont, same postcode as me. Drop me a PM, and you can pop over one evening and chat. I have access to about 10,000 colour chips for cars, so maybe I can help if you want the help.

sorry if I wasn't clear but I'm receding to the finish on the bumpers.I'd also check out the house of colour( that's the brand name) pagan gold if you want gold that's it!

There were a couple of metallic colours in the 70s on Aus bugs.

theres a darker blue mettalic and also a horrible chocolate brown colour.
I think from memory the 15millionth Superbugs came with a couple of metallic colours too.

It really shocked me with the gold 1 millionth oval considering the historical importance and the fact its a "zero miles" car how roughly the resto on it was done, particually the paint and the condition underneath for something that has sat in a museum all its life.

Overspray is on everything underneath, all the torsionbar housings, horn and wiring, floor pans and jacking points etc etc and there are far worse pics of it than these out there.
It's had 2 restos done on it now, first one was even worse.

Apparently Hilters cabrio isn't much better

So, Joel.

I take it you wouldn't be interested in one of the supposed factory bulli restos' at around 40,000 to 100,00 euro's from VW commercial vehicles oldtimer division?

Still not sure of this, there's references to it all over the web, including the samba but nothing on VW AG sites yet.

Regards,

Matt.
