Clutch arm upgrade
humpty - March 18th, 2013 at 10:03 PM

Hey gurus....

I have a T34 Ghia that is about to get my old mildly modified 1776 fitted.... I have rebuilt the original trans in prep for this upgrade, and I'm going to fit a slightly HD clutch to cope with estimated 120hp the engine produces.... A KEP Stage 1 PP and KEP Gold disc to be exact.

So the questions are these...

Is there a longer clutch release arm (for a light pedal) available for the early transaxle, and a HD cross shaft too?

Or....

If not, can a later cross shaft be fitted into the early transaxle?

You can fit the later shaft, DB has a how-to somewhere. Entails making an adapter bush (large shaft and small hole in case) and notching the shaft so that you can fit it into the trans. There's a pic of it finished in Bluey's build thread.

The clutch stuff I have left over from the POS.... It's all in perfect order, its just wasn't strong enough to handle the boost in that car.... So in the T34 it goes.
But I want to upgrade the clutch arm for added security and a lighter pedal, hence the request.
Guess I'll just have to get my hands on and HD cross-shaft and long arm, and make it work.... Nothing a vernier and a lathe can't fix!

I just tig-welded the cross shaft arms, and extended the outer arm by cutting near the cable 'loop', and welding on a section of another arm. From memory it was about 20mm longer.

weld another arm beside the origional about 20mm higher works well and easiest to do

Humpty

I have 1916 with Kennedy stage 3 clutch which was heavy but a lot easier to push now even with my buggared foot
