I am looking to upgrade the 1200cc fitted to my 1963 Beetle. The plan is to fit a turn-key engine up to a maximum size of 2276cc .The car is used for a club toy/weekend runabout limited to about 2000 driving miles max a year and the aim of the upgrade is to have more power for highway cruising and getting up hills!!!

I have sorted the out front disk brake conversion. The query is more about the rest of the driveline and any suggestion as to what may need to be upgraded i.e. gearbox/ diff ratios to handle the above.

Anyone done a similar upgrade and could suggest what worked or did not for them?
