Tyre questions
benny_acko - June 19th, 2013 at 05:03 PM

Hey guys,

I purchased 2x Nankang 165/80/r15 tyres a week or so ago but since purchased some wheels that came with 2x 195/50/r15 tyres on the rear and the 165 are much greater in diameter.

Just wondering if you can get a profile in 145/165 tyres for the front that would make them similar in size? Can anyone post the tyre claculater link please?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ben.

Nevermind foudn the miata calculator
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Do 165s come in a 60 profile? or 145 in 70?

I would hope to get away with only have to buy 2 new tyres and sell off the others....

Cheers

problem is when you find the size...

You then find they aren't available...

You can check Bob Jane tyres website for many sizes..
or tyrepower..

There are many grey importers of tyres that Bob jane or Tyre power cannot get, just have to search, ebay has some tyres sizes that the above tyre places cannot sell.

Cheers guys.

Thanks Sander - Ive seen that one before - now to work out the ET.

The guy at my local Payless Tyres is usually pretty good (also where I got the Nankang 165/80s) so Ill have a chat to him. And cheaprubber.com.au do Nankangs

Could you run 195s on the front of a 67 with no shortened beam?

Yes.

I ran 195/60/15 tyres on set of Porsche Cookie Cutter wheels on the front of my '66 - no shortened beam.

The front end was lowered using AVIS adjusters. The outside wall of the tyre scrubed a little on uneven roads, when there a bit of weight under the front hood, IE: a full tank of petrol or luggage. The inside tyre wall scubbed the front sway bar bracket when the steering wheel was on full lock.

Is the front end of your car stock ride height or lowered?
What type of wheels are on the car?
How wide are the front wheels?

Stock height - 195/60/15 will fit.
Stock 4.5 x 15" wheel is too small for a 195 tyre.

Thanks Zayus.

They are Raiders - havnt measured yet but either 5" or 5.5". Two tyres are 195/50/r15 so a fair bit shorter than stock height, with the other 2 rims having no tyres.

I am currently looking swapping some brand new 165s I have for some 135s this weekend at the drags with someone off this forum. Was exploring my options to see if I could go 195 at the front and something similar or wider at the rear. Maybe down the track when I have to replace some tyres...

The front beam has adjusters but not the AVIS style - has two allen bolts each side. Currently at the highest setting.

Hey guys sorry to dig this up again.

Used the http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp  calculator and discovered 205/65/r15 and 195/65/r15 are looking like the best choice. Will a 205 fit on a 5" rim or is this too wide?

Cheers.

Ask your tyre shop if they will fit...

I have 205/55/15s on my rear 7inch wide rims...

205 on a 5 inch rim may be too wide, i run 195/65r15 on a 15x5.5 and they bulge out a fair bit. ill take a pic tomorrow.
